A charming beyond belief rendition of an old classic.
Want to play just like Zooey and Joseph? A decent enough ukulele is about $30. Being gorgeous while playing it is priceless.
From Uke Hunt
Suggested Strumming
For intro you can do this for the first three chords:
d – d u
And a down strum for the E7.
And you can do just down strums for the main bit of the song too.
In the verse: four down strums for the A and G7. Two each until the B chord (four for that) then back to two each.
In the middle: four down strums for the C#m and two each for the others in the first two lines. In the third line, six down strums for the C#m and two for the F#7. Then four each in the last line.
Not ready for the Big Time? Word has it that the ukulele is one of the easiest instruments to pick up, and it’s popularity is on the rise.

Set the monkeys up with their own ukuleles and maybe they’ll get good enough to pay the electricity bill!
Do you know the origin of the ukulele? Or the word ukulele? Not to brag (hehe) but it derives from the musical instrument “cavaquinho” or also known as “braguinha”. When our poor emigrants arrived at Hawai they started celebrating and the main dance was the “Bailinho da Madeira”, a very curious way to dance. And the people there call them jumping fleas (ukulele). And now one cannot think of Hawai and leave out the ukulele and vice versa. We are all connected. And that’s a good thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCffvNpTW5I&feature=related
Thank you, Portugal! That is really very interesting. I didn’t know. I do, indeed, own a ukulele, but I haven’t really learned to play it yet (it is actually Mason’s).
However, my father-in-law went to the Punahou School in Hawaii (where President Obama went) http://www.punahou.edu/. He is really good on his uke!
Thanks for the comment!
The instrument is also used by the university students, in groups that we call “Tunas Académicas”. No “Tuna” performs without one or more “cavaquinhos”.
