The Oxford Essential Guide to Critical Writing (Essential Resource Library) by Thomas S. Kane
OK, so now you know what I am currently reading, I can hear the snickers! But I suddenly have readers on my blog, and I desperately need a brush-up on my writing skills. The guide is very good so far, but it doesn’t help with my typos or misspellings! Thank you for ignoring them for the time being.
Well I AM laughing! You don’t need to codify your self-expression ~ that’s for lesser lights & the drones. There’s some good tips HERE to which I would add…
** Good writing is a form of speaking & most bloggers think it’s something different. If you look at the dozen or so bloggers on Freethoughtblogs [where PZ & his crew hang out] you will find the excellent Hank Fox who speaks from his heart ~ sample: Charley & Me — Part 1 & one half-good writer. I’ll let you guess who that is.
** Read the authors who have found their voice [& their heart] e.g. Raymond Chandler, Elmore Leonard, P.G. Wodehouse & Hitchens [three of those couldn't punctuate & two couldn't spell]
** Experiment to find your voice [translate: make mistakes] & do not be afraid to expose yourself to us
** Answer my email about where/how you write your posts & I’ll sort out the spelling problem ~ leave the spelling to your computer
** Give that book away to a drone
** Have fun
Job done
That all sounded a bit arrogant didn’t it? Sorry! You are a good writer ~ I said so before.
No, it was taken in the spirit it was intended!
I’m glad. Make sure to check out Hank Fox above ~ ‘heart’ makes all the difference & you have an abundance of that
Gracias, mi amigo (Let me know if you get this as an email- I’ve been notified of a potential problem) This is test #1.
